Casa De Azulejos

Since we have been here, we have eaten out A LOT. It has been a month of restaurants because we have no kitchen. One of my friends from Colorado had recommended a place here called Sanborn's. We went to a not so great one (kind of like there are some Denny's that are nicer and better than others). Well Sanborns is like the Mexican Denny's...decent comfort food at a really great price. Most Sanborn's that we have passed look like your typical cafeteria looking restaurant. The one we initially went to was pretty gross and we were not impressed. Christina then informed us that we didn't go to the right one and to try the one that was located inside a building called Casa de Azulejos (House of Tiles). So we went and were blown away by the building. This was so different from the other Sanborn's we had gone to, well the food still wasn't our favorite (Sorry Christina), it wasn't horrible but it wasn't good enough to go back. I guess you could compare it to the fact that some people adore Denny's, others won't go near it. We've found the same thing here with Sanborn's and the reaction of some of the locals to it.

What is so neat about this location is that it was built in the 16th century as a mansion home

-In 1737 the Count and Countess of Orizaba ordered the renovation of their home and the placement of the tiles.

-From 1881 it functioned as a private men's club.

-In 1917 it was converted into a drug store and soda fountain which eventually evolved into Sanborn's, a chain of restaurants and department stores, which is what it is today.

OK! Then you guys narrow it down to the top three restaurants and you can choose the food when we come to visit you!!!!

Well you guys at least have to go there when you come down here since you enjoy it. I don't know if you'll find it has gone downhill since you were last here but if it hasn't (and Kris and I are just food snobs) then at least you and Brandon will be able to eat your fill of Sanborn's! We have several great places to eat...stay tuned because I have pictures coming of some of those.

Ok the food was gross, but your boys are hilarious. If you are there for a few more years we will come visit you. We sure missed sibling time with Kris at Erin's wedding.
